Injury and rep players absences continue to create challenges for our girls this weekend with younger players being asked to step up… and they’re delivering promising results!

We can now regroup and rejuvenate with some rep players returning and second grade now in hiatus for the Christmas-New Year break!

First Grade vs Gold Coast

Our first grade women began promisingly with the bat in the game against the Gold Coast with Meagan Dixon (48 off 54 marching to 73 before the loss of our first wicket in the eleventh over. Wickets fell quickly, reducing the team to 8/112 before the final pair of Naiya Varidel (32 of 27) and (Sofia 6no of 21) combined for some intelligent use of the strike and a 41-run stand to push Wests final score to 153.

Unfortunately, it was not enough with the Gold Coast passing Wests score in the twenty-sixth over with eight wickets in hand. Ash Sims starred for Wests with the ball, taking 2/42 off 9 overs.

Second Grade

Second grade played two T20 games. In the first against Sandgate-Redcliffe, runs were difficult to come by and the girls finished with 8/49. Impressive resistance was provided by Hannah Page (8 off 32) and Amy Carpenter (6 off 34). Sandgate-Redcliffe overtook their total without loss.

The team improved in the second game, bowling well to keep Redlands to 5/108 with Hannah Page, Emma Lockwood, Alex Lloyd and Victoria Lloyd all taking a wicket. Wests posted an improved 6/73 with Emma Lockwood knocking out 23 off 52 balls with great supports from Alex Lloyd with 14 off 42.
