Five Wests girls completed a successful week at the Queensland U17 female state championships at Caloundra this week. The competition was played between four teams which each combined players from all parts of the state.

Erin Moran (Flash), Isabel Goffage (Sparks), Eloise Schabe (Embers), Layla Proctor (Flares) and Naiya Varidel (Flares) made the most of the opportunity to refine their game against strong opposition and each of them produced fine performances with the bat, ball and gloves.

Erin did fine work opening the bowling, Isabel batted with great fortitude in the top order and took a horizontal-diving-screamer of a catch, Eloise showed how it’s done with both the bat and the ball, Layla showed the way with the gloves and as captain of the Flares and Naiya made important contributions as an opening bat.

Heavy rainfall during the previous week and during the carnival made for very heavy conditions in the field, making batting a very difficult proposition and an exercise in patience! Fortunately, no games were abandoned due to the weather over the three days, but two of them were shortened.

Congratulations ladies on a great carnival!
