Last Saturday the Hawks girls went up against the UQ Flames at Brisbane Boys College. The toss was lost by the Westies but the opposition decision went their way as they were sent in to bowl. With one win on the list the girls were fired up and ready to go.

Opening the bowling was Eloise Schabe and Jess Bryant who pushed the dogs off to a reasonable start which was then backed up by Emma Lockwood and Sophie Martin. Emma rolled 2 of UQs key batsman in quick succession which sought a decrease in the run rate, ultimately raising the Westies energy in the field. This partnership between the two completely changed the game. Uni, by the end of the innings, placed 124 runs on the board.

After an eventful first innings the girls were pumped to get in the middle. Emma Lockwood and Scarlett Varidel took the lead putting up a 34 run opening partnership after Scarlett was dismissed. Eloise Schabe rebuilt with Emma who collaboratively maintained the run rate up to the 17th over. With 17 runs to get in the last 3 overs, Naiya Varidel walked out and was soon accompanied by Jess Bryant to guide the girls over the finish line.

Key Stats:

  • Emma Lockwood 2/19 (4) & 63 (55)
