Our women’s first grade team launched their 2021-22 campaign with a massive 135-run win over the Valley girls at Graceville Memorial Park on Sunday.
Josie Dooley carried her bat for a magnificent 179 not out off 169 deliveries with great support from Megan Dixon with 36. Josie’s innings started steadily and built throughout. She hit to all parts of the ground, accumulating 18 fours and a brace of sixes. The Wests girls finished at 7/277.
Our bowlers kept the Valleys scoring tight, reducing the visitors to 7/83 after 29 overs when bad light stopped play. Holly Ferling was the destroyer-in-chief with the ball, picking up 4 for 9 off six overs with Jess Bryant and Megan Dixon also chipping in with a wicket apiece and Lily Bassingthwaighte bowling fast and straight in her first grade debut.
After DLS adjustments for the early conclusion of the match, the Westies recorded an emphatic 135-run victory and a great start to the season.
