After a big win last week, Wests first grade women had a tough game this week against UQ.  The girls went down in despite a fighting rear-guard innings with the bat by Holly Ferling.

UQ batted first and steadily accumulated runs throughout their 50 overs.  Holly Ferling lead the bowling attack, taking two wickets and was ably support by Megan Dixon, Olivia Steel, Lily Bassingthwaighte and Naiya Varidel each snaring one.  Keeper Scarlett Varidel also racked up several score-sheet mentions with two catches, and assisted runout and a sharp stumping off her sister Naiya’s bowling.  The girls grabbed five quick wickets in the final overs, but by that stage UQ had rolled past two hundred and finished on 9/233.

Set a gettable target, the Westies got off to a rocky start with the early loss of their openers Naiya Varidel and Grace Harris and No.4 Eloise Schabe.  Megan Dixon put on a solid partnership with Holly Ferling before Megan was out with the score on 84.  Holly fought hard with the lower order bats to accumulate 73 runs and push the score to 161 before she was run out.  The final wickets fell quickly after that and Wests innings ended on 161.

Tough day girls, but that’s done now…best of luck in the T20s starting next week!
