Tom Gillett stars with bat and ball in Bulldogs’ win over UQ Gold in Round 5 of the MSW Shield.

UQ won the toss and elected to bat. Opening the bowling for Bulldogs, Tom consistently maintained a tight line and length, and sent both UQ openers back to the hutch in his first spell of four overs, giving away only one run in the process.  The Bulldogs lads did not allow the UQ batsmen to settle, bowling tight lines and taking wickets at regular intervals, including a fine stumping by Jed Bostock off the bowling of Jayden Tebble, and a caught & bowled by Jack Matthews. UQ managed 8/113 off 30 overs.

Best bowling was Tom, 2 for 2 (6 overs with 4 maidens) and Jack Matthews 2 for 6 (2 overs).

In response, Bulldogs were in trouble as they lost 4 wickets for 22 runs inside the first 9 overs. However, Tom and Max Richards steadied the Bulldogs’ ship and their partnership of 62 runs not only bailed Bulldogs out of trouble but also got them close to the UQ target and ahead of the required rate.  After Max got out, Tom continued the show, hitting his first fifty of the season, including 7 boundaries, as Bulldogs overhauled the target with 4 wickets and 4 overs to spare.

Best batting was Tom Gillett 53 and Max Richards 22.

Congratulations to Tom Gillett on a brilliant all-round performance with bat and ball!
