1st grade began the day at GMP1 being sent in to bat by Redlands on a green looking wicket and wests got off to the worst possible start with opener Brendan Smith bowled by Redlands captain Simon Milenko for a duck in the second over of the game. Number 3 Sam Truloff came to the crease to join opener Isaiah Snell and both batters went about the innings very cautiously with runs proving hard to come by. Snell was then unluckily caught down legside by keeper Drennan off the bowling of Bazley for 9 leaving wests 2 -12 and when alround Steve McGiffin fell for 2 from 24 balls caught behind off Milenko, wests were reeling at 3 for 25. Ben Maynard then joined Truloff and the pair set about cautiously rebuilding the innings and the pair got wests to lunch only 3 down. The partneship continued after lunch with the pair starting to get a bit of fluency in their innings with both batters passing 50 until Maynard was removed caught at mid wicket for a patient 53 from 122 balls with the pair puting on a valuable 112 run partnership to leave wests 4 -137. Captain Pat Collins built a small partnerhsip with Truloff to get the team to tea. Shortly after tea Collins was caught hooking a short ball to deep fine leg for 24 and then Jarred Sippel came and went quickly for 5 leaving wests still in trouble at 6 – 192. Paddy Dooley then dug in with Truloff to put on 62 valuable runs and help Truloff to his century. When Dooley was removed by the second new ball wests were looking solid at 7 for 254. Zac Beveridge then took the long handle late in the day to be only adjudged LBW in the last over for 37 from 33 balls, Truloff finshed unbeaten on 135 off 244 balls with wests 8 for 306 at the end of the days play.
2nd grade also had a centurion with Josh Del Simone scoring an innings saving 113 off 220 balls and was well assisted by skipper Nick Vellacott who made a patient 51 to get wests a compettive total of 243. Redlands are currently 0-5 in reply.
