2nd grade men played out a thrilling last ball victory over souths on Sunday to secure a one day semi final birth!
Wests were in the field first of which souths made a steady start getting to 60 runs when the first wicket fell with Dupinder Singh making the breakthrough, then another 50 run stand was achieved by souths when alrounder Luke Davies knocked over Souths top scorer Aaron Joby for 49 caught behind. Steady partnerships throughout the souths innings and some disciplined bowling from wests had souths bowled out for 189 in the penultimate over of the innings. Darcy Murphy 2-49, Joe Fry 3-36, Will Dooley 2-32, Dupinder Singh 2-24 and Luke Davies 1-12 all featured in the wickets column. Wests then set about the chase with openers Carlyon and Collins getting to 26 before Collins was caught for 11, Ben Maynard followed shortly after for 1 to leave wests 2-32. A mini partnership between Carlyon and new batter Del Simone of 31 was just getting going when skipper Carlyon was caught for 35 from 57 balls. Del Simone was going to prove to be the rock of the innings with him passing 50 but when he was removed with the score on 7-136 wests still required a further 54 runs for victory. Left arm seamer Darcy Murphy was the man to stand up holding his nerve to finish 32 not out off 38 balls hitting the winning runs off the last ball of the match to secure a monumental victory!!!
