The Wests ladies have hit the ground running in the KFC T20 Max.
Going into Friday nights match against the Sunshine Coast at Allan Border Field as the perceived underdogs, the Wests girls managed to take the win by a show of brilliant team work. With 3 big scores on the board by Miss Wotherspoon, Sippel and Bassingthwaite we were set up well with a total of 4 for 136. Sunny Coast had us shivering in our boots with their sheer depth of batters but little did they know we had our own secret weapon in Lilli Hamilton, taking 4 for 13 off 4. Not far behind was Courtney Sippel taking 2 for 19 off 3.4. Sunny Coast all out in the 19th over making 122.
Congratulations Wests on an awesome game.
Saturday morning saw a similar Wests team sans Bass, add Dooley! This time on our home ground of Jack McLaughlin Oval. The girls were staring up at another strong team in Wynnum-Manly. Again the ladies put some strong scores up, J Dooley 31 off 22, C.Sippel 46 off 38, and R Strange 32 off 33 with the team making 6 for 150. Our bowlers held the Wynnum-Manly bats to 6 for 104 bringing Wests women to 2 wins from 2 games. Brilliant job!!
Sunday, here we go again. Bass is still out, Dooley and Sims as well, bring in Holly Ferling and Annie Wikman. Heading over to Norths on Sunday morning to meet with Ipswich the girls are feeling good but know the Ipswich team is strong. WSDCC won the toss and elected to bat. What a start! Wikman, Sippel, Strange and Wotherspoon all out for 19 runs off 44 ball! In went G Parsons and look out, 90 off 57, followed by Ferling smacking 29 off 19 putting us at 4 for 152.
Our bowlers came in and sealed the deal with Varidel taking 3 for 18 off 4 overs, Strange taking 2 for 11 off 3.1 with Ipswich all out for 107 in the 19th over.
What an awesome group of cricketers. Congratulations Wests, can’t wait to see you in action on Thursday night back at Norths taking on UQ at 6pm.
