Looking for their first win of the season, Wests Tav’s won the toss and elected to bat. Wests started a little bit shaky with the bat with the loss of two early wickets. The Ipswich bowling attack bowled well and kept things tight. A very solid 44 off 71 from Lachie Cumming batting at 4 steadied the ship. A very low chase for the visitors looked a real possibility with a steady flow of wickets. But a quality 44 off 63 from Dupinder Singh stabilised the innings during the middle to late overs. Wests posted a competitive total in the end (9/199) with the help of 49 off 47 from Jacob Kumaru.
A gutsy bowling effort from the young off-spinner, Toby Matthews, got the Dogs off to an ideal start, jagging two huge early wickets. While the spinners dominated from one end, the quicks followed suit from the other. Some attacking batting from the Ippy middle order kept them in the game, but the flow of wickets continued. The best bowling being Jack Sonter – 2/11 (5.2 overs) and Lachie Cumming – 2/28 (9 overs). Ipswich was bowled out 37 runs short of the target. The Tav’s boys hope to continue this momentum into Round 3 against UQ.
