Lighting and thunder determined the outcome of several girls cricket games this weekend!
Kirby Short Cup – Hawks vs UQ Heat
The Hawks were beaten to the punch by a storm when well in front against UQ Heat.
Harris Shield – Harriers vs Ospreys
The Wests Harris Shield derby game between the Ospreys and the Harriers got off to a flying start with the Harriers racking up an impressive total of 6/148 off their 20 overs despite some great bowling by the Ospreys girls.
Holly Walker was the star of the Harriers innings, posting a fantastic undefeated 74 off 65 balls including 11 fours. The innings was Holly’s maiden half century! Holly was ably supported by a number of other girls, with Poppy Weekes in particular playing a tenacious anchor role at the other end and scoring 20 runs.
Ishani Singh took 3/24 off 4 overs for the Ospreys, Olivia Totten took 2/17 off 2 and Mia Baker took 1/25 off 4. Penny Munday also showed off some great keeping hands behind the stumps!
Unfortunately with a storm about to arrive, the game had to be abandoned before the Ospreys batting innings started.
Harris Shield Development – Kestrels vs Kenmore Blaze
On Friday evening the Kestrels took on Moggill Fire at Moggill. After winning the toss the Kestrels chose to field and restricted Moggill to 6/92. Lucy Pagliano, Mischa Reid and Arielle Angwin each took wickets. Fielding was much improved and the team managed 3run-outs as well.
Most impressive was the improved discipline shown in the bowling department with the number of wides bowled halved from previous weeks.
Kestrels then went into bat and were 1/8 when a storm forced the abandonment of the game.
Stage 1 – Egrets vs Souths Blaze
Egrets played a great game against Moggill Heat but unfortunately didn’t quite get enough runs on the board to hold out Moggill.
Egrets batted first and were contained by some very tight fielding by Moggill. Georgia was able to hit a number of boundaries to break the shackles with Isabelle also making a nice contribution.
With the ball in hand and a small total to defend Isabelle took two wickets to be on a hat trick and Sophie also took a wicket.
With the storms coming in from the south west and lightning getting closer the match was concluded a couple of overs short.
Great contribution from Anthony scoring and umpiring Luke and Saby.
