Our U15 girls team tonight capped their unbeaten run to the Paul Pink Shield final with a magnificent 8 wicket victory over Souths at Chelmer Sports Ground to take the premiership. The girls restricted Souths to 89 all out from their 20 overs, then backed up with the bat, passing the total in the fifteenth over.
The win was built on a foundation of slick fielding and tight bowling polished off with steady run chase.
Significantly, the win was achieved on the same day as the club passed 100 female registrations for the 2020-21 season. It’s the first time in its history the club has achieved this milestone and it’s happened quickly… female players numbers at Wests are growing by about 40% per year.
The Paul Pink Shield Premiership is the second premiership won by Wests female cricketers this season, going with the T20 premiers won by our women’s first grade team in the Katherine Raymont Shield comp in December. Tonight’s win is testament to the depth developing in girls cricket at Wests in terms of both player numbers and skill development.
