It was another solid weekend across the board for the senior men with a number of teams in a competitive positions are week one of matches and our 4th grade were victorious in their semi final
1st grade are in a commanding victory against Redlands at Peter Burge Oval only 40 runs in arrears after knocking over the home side for 166, largely thanks to returning Brisbane Heat representative Paddy Dooley’s 5 – 34 from 19 overs. Fellow recent Brisbane Heat rep Steve McGiffin chimed in with 4 – 38 from 12.4 overs and a superb alround fielding effort had redlands out just before tea. Wests lost opener Pat Collins early but a 119 run stand from opener Isaiah Snell 59 not out and Sam Truloff 61 not out got wests to 1 – 126 at the close of play.
2nd grade had a solid day also at graceville, having redlands 9 – 197 at the close of play, Will Dooley continued his wicket taking this season snaring 4 – 48, well supported by spinner Luke Penn 3 – 53.
3rd grade bowled Redlands out for 187 at the close of play with opening bowlers Luke Thompson 4 – 55 and Declan Curran 4 – 20 the chief destroyers, Angus Tolhurst also snared 2 – 18.
4th grade on Saturday were knocked over for just 103 and Redlands are 2 – 31 at the close of play. Jack Sonter top scored with 37 and Sam Arnott has take a wicket and there was also a run out to have Redlands two down. 4th grade faired much better on Sunday though in their one day semi final against Norths with Wests batting first and making 8 / 176 largely thanks to younster Dan Skipworth 63 off 97 balls and he was well supported by Josh Buffett 25 from 36 and some late order hitting by Declan Curran 26 from 20. Toby Matthews then did the job with the ball taking 4 – 18 off 8 overs, with Darcy Graham 2- 19 and Sam Arnott 2 -22 securing the victory!
5th grade are evenly poised against Redlands on Saturday with Redlands 6 – 154 at the end of the days play.
Unfortunately 5th grade went down in their one day semi on Sunday to Wynnum by 12 runs. Wynnum were all out for 100 with Nick Purser 2 – 13, Steve Gramenz 1 – 16, Lachie Cumming 3 – 15, Cam Stewart 3 – 21 all adding to the wickets column. However wests batting fell apart to be all out for 88 with the only resilience coming from Cam Stewart 24 and Lachlan Brennan 20.
6th grade are in the box seat against redlands being only 8 runs in arrears after bowling the tigers out for 74 and being 1 – 66 in response. Nick Purser 4 – 27, Jake Kranen 3 – 27, Oliver Richardson 2 – 15 and Tom Stevenson 1 – 1 all chimed in with wickets. Jake Kranen topped off a great allround display being 41 not out at the close of play.
