4th grade took on University on Sunday in the one day grand final at St Lucia #2 oval with Uni batting first and posting 8 – 164 off their 40 overs. Wests bowled tidily restricting the hosts to a very chasable score, Declan Curran 8 overs 3 – 24 was the pick of the wests bowlers, alongside young leggie Lachlan Holmes 2 – 21 from 8 overs with the rest of the wickets shared around the other bowlers. Wests unfortunately never got going in the run chase with only Josh Buffett 32 from 54 and Nick Lahey 21 from 37 the only batters to make double figures which saw wests all out for 83. Well done to the team on making the Grand Final!!
On Saturday it was a top of the table clash for 1st grade taking on Ipswich at Ivor Marsden with wests being sent in on a slow and low wicket and thick outfield, wests battled all day for runs with Pat Collins falling early for 5 caught in the gully. Snell and incoming batter Truloff then got the team to lunch and shared a 67 run stand before Snell was bowled for a patient 21 off 125 deliveries. Truloff and McGiffin then shared a 62 run partnership with Truloff passing 50 until McGiffin was out for 18. Truloff was eventually dismissed close to the close of play for 97 from 204 balls which took his season tally to 1,081 runs at an average of 77.21. Wests finished the day 8 – 175 with the slow outfield only allowing for 7 boundaries the entire day with Blake Edwards and Aidan Watterson the batters at the crease.
2nd grade were all out for 160 with skipper Max Carlyon 64 from 147 balls leading from the front. Mitch Pearce second top scored with 20 from 28 balls coming in at number 9. Wests have ipswich 2 – 39 in reply with Joe Fry and Jon Allcock the wicket takers.
3rd grade are 1 – 47 in reply to Norths 219 at the end of day 1, with leggie Andrew ‘Munsie’ Henderson in his first appearance of the season snaring 4 – 23 off 16 overs, Eashan Nakar also claimed 2 scalps for 20 runs 6 overs.
4th grade were all out for 149 against Norths and Norths are 0 – 5 at the close of play
5th grade are 4 – 196 at the close of play against Norths
6th grade were all out for 123 against Norths at Chelmer with Dev Dhaka top scoring with 28 opening the batting, norths will begin batting on week 2.
