The day had come for the Wests Hawks to take on the renowned UQ Heat. In their last encounter, the Hawks girls batting had a collapse and posted only a moderate total, but still put in an amazing effort and only succumbed in the last over.
So for this rematch against UQ Heat, the Hawks girls were fired up and ready to go! The Hawks unfortunately lost the toss and UQ elected to bowl.
With the sun going down, the lights malfunctioning, a storm brewing and a drizzle of rain, the Hawks were slightly rattled. However, Naiya and Scarlett Varidel walked out to the middle and took down the opening bowlers. This opening partnership hit 62 runs when Scarlett was runout. In came Eloise Schabe who was effective in assisting Naiya, forming an 89-run partnership. Finishing the innings off with 1 for 151.
Even though the Westies scored big, there was no complacency and they were ready to fight to the end. The first over set the Hawks off to the perfect start with Erin Moran bowling a 2-wicket maiden. UQ were kept under enormous pressure with great bowling from Jess Bryant, Eloise Schabe and Sophie Martin. Unfortunately, the game was abandoned when lightning approached the field after the seventh over with UQ Heat in big trouble at 2/30.
