First Grade OD vs Ipswich-Logan
Wests bowlers began well, with Liv Hartland having Hannah Freiberg caught behind with the score at 32, then capturing the wicket of opener Lucy Neumann soon after. At that point Ipswich were looking a little edgy at 2/43 but Abby Toshach and Trinity Doyle dug in and took the score to 112 before Lilli Hamilton bowled Abby.
Naiya Varidel had Olivia Winter stumped by Scarlett Varidel soon after. Wickets to Jess Bryant and a sharp runout to Naiya had Wests on top at 6/162, but Ipswich No.4 Trinity Doyle held firm and carried her bat to the finish line with a fighting 68.
Ipswich-Logan finished on 6/197, setting the Westies a competitive but very gettable target.
Wests innings began disastrously with Wests top three bats Annie Wikman, Naiya Varidel and Eloise Schabe falling in rapid succession. In short order they were in big trouble at 3/13, but Isabel Goffage and Olivia Steel locked things down and took the score to 94 before Liv fell for 37. Liv Hartland joined Isabel at the crease and took the score to 109 before Isabel was trapped lbw for 38. Liv Totten belted a four then also succumbed, and Wests were again in trouble at 6/115 when keeper-bat Scarlett Varidel went in to bat.
Scarlett and Liv Hartland pushed the total to 128 before Liv was bowled, leaving Wests 70 runs from home with only three wickets remaining but twenty overs in hand. Scarlett and Ash Sims dug in, adding another 36 before Ash was dismissed for a dogged 9 off 32. Jess Bryant stuck with Scarlett to take the score to 181 when Jess was bowled, bringing Lily Bassingthwaighte to the crease.
With the Wests girls down to their final wicket, 17 runs still to get and just four overs remaining it was again very tight. But Scarlett and Lily reeled off the runs, sealing the win with seven balls to spare.
Lily finished on 15no and Scarlett did a magnificent job to anchor the long-range chase with the tail finished with an unbeaten 33 off 73 balls.
Congratulations on a fighting win ladies – your second dogged effort in two games!

Second Grade OD vs Sunshine Coast
Wests had first honours with the bat and had a difficult start, slumping to 3/30 before Chelsea Sonter and Kameryn Bray put on 95 for the fourth wicket. After Kameryn was out for a fine 35, the run rate slowed considerably and several wickets fell in quick succession. Chelsea was the eighth wicket to fall for a determined 38 of 86 balls. Sue-Ellen Lockwood struck a fine hockey-inspired boundary at the death before the final wicket fell for a total of 144.
When play resumed the Westies were in the wickets almost immediately with Kameryn snaring a Sunshine Coast opener and Kyrna Crump snapping up two more in quick succession. With the coast girls suddenly vulnerable at 3/27, Wests tails were up!
Akaya Stafford and Ky struck twice more and Wests were in prime position at 5/52. But the Sunshine Coast dug in and, despite a runout two more wickets to Kameryn and one to Ashleigh Oates, they ground their way to 9/133 with ten overs remaining. Unfortunately our girls couldn’t close it out and the game closed with a hard-fought one-wicket loss.
Nice grit girls despite the result! Enjoy the break next week.
