Wests women’s grade teams came up against two in-form teams this week and went down in both games on a very windy day.
First Grade vs Sandgate-Redcliffe
Sandgate-Redcliffe’s openers made the most of batting first, posting 179 for the first wicket before Georgia Voll was dismissed by Olivia Hartland for 82. Her opening partner Tess Cooper went on to score 138. Sandgate-Redcliffe lost several wickets in the last 10 overs but finished with a massive 5-302 from their 50 overs.
Wests started slowly but gained momentum when Meagan Dixon came to the crease. The girls maintained pace with the required run rate for much of the game but steadily lost wickets and eventually succumbed to a 46 run loss despite a fine captains knock of 124 not out off 119 balls from Meagan, and a fighting partnership of 90 runs for the eighth wicket between Meagan and Tammy Cole.
It was a disappointing loss, but our girls fighting spirit in the face of a massive first innings total by Sandgate-Redcliffe was great to watch.
Big congratulations to Meagan Dixon on scoring her maiden first grade century in Queensland Premier Cricket!
Key individual stats:
- Meagan Dixon 124no (119) and 1/39 (10)
- Tammy Cole 33 (42)
- Annie Wikman 21 (35)
- Lily Awyzio 2/55 (10)
- Olivia Hartland 2/63 (10)
Second Grade vs Sunshine Coast
Our second grade girls encountered last season’s second grade premiers, an in-form and very strong Sunshine Coast team.
Sunshine Coast batted first and posted a very hefty 6-266 from their 40 overs. Victoria Lloyd topped the bowling honours with three wickets and Bec McCoombes, Erin Moran and Sarah Kelso also captured a scalp each.
Wests were dismissed for 98 which was a tidy effort given the strength of the Sunshine Coast bowling line-up. Isabel Goffage top scored with 26.
Key individual stats:
- Isabel Goffage 26 (49)
- Bec McCoombes 11 (42) and 1/53 (8)
- Emma Lockwood 9 (44)
- Victoria Lloyd 3/27 (5)
