Last Friday, the Hawks took on the UQ Heat in the Kirby Short Cup. After last weeks close game, the westies were expecting something similar, and straight up, they won the toss and elected to bat.
Naiya Varidel and Eloise Schabe built the opening partnership of 21, setting the dogs off to a decent start. After Naiya’s dismissal, Trinity Doyle rocked up to the crease with full intent to take the westies to the end. Later on, Eloise’s wicket fell at 2-63 in the 9th over. So, Emma Lockwood took her place and accompanied Trin in whacking UQ around the field to the end of the innings. After the stellar effort from the two, the dogs finished with 149 runs.
Second innings and the girls went out onto the field in all smiles, ready to take down uni. The first spell was from Trinity and Eloise. It was a rough time un the tricky conditions but that wasn’t stopping the dogs from performing and taking the first wicket in the 5th over. Sophie Martin’s tight bowling pushed the opening bat to take a suicide run resulting in Emma Lockwood ripping the ball into the keeper, Scarlett Varidel’s gloves, who then wiped the stumps straight out of alignment. The westies kept pressing on the opposing batsman who ended the innings making 109 runs.
