This week, the westie girls rocked up to Ashgrove ready to play under lights, taking on Valley Navy. Their spirits were high, and their energy levels were skyrocketing. The toss was unfortunately lost but the decision still went the doggies way with the Hawks starting off in the field.
Opening the bowling was Eloise Schabe from the far end, who took the first wicket, straight bowled, and the westies were up. From the other end, Jess Bryant bowled a tight overtaking the second wicket of the night, again, straight bowled. Eloise’s second over was under fire with Valley’s key bat crunching a four directly over the bowler’s head but with confidence, Eloise went back to her runup and roared in. Her peach of a ball completely took the batsman by surprise and found her caught at short cover. Shortly after, Kinjal Dani bowled her ripper of a spell alongside Amy Carpenter which set the girls up for a positive innings. Sophie Martina and Emma Lockwood then came on restricting Valley’s run-rate significantly. Valley Navy were in trouble finishing with 7 for 57.
The second innings was opened by Jess Bryant and Scarlett Varidel who set up the key partnership in the run chase as they chipped the ball around, playing 360o cricket. After Scarlett’s dismissal in the 6th over, Amy Carpenter came in and accompanied Jess in getting the girls over the line, beating Valley’s score in the 8th over.
The girls are commended on their efforts all throughout the game and are ready for their head-to-head match against Valley Blue this Saturday.
