Wests’ girls have capped an unbeaten run to the final with a premiership win over Souths at Chelmer Sports Ground!
Souths won the toss and elected to bat. Their innings started quickly with Souths openers Amreen Kahlon and Eve Mollee immediately on the job of making runs (!), taking the score to 25 before Eve was trapped lbw by Wests captain Isabel Goffage in the fifth over.
Two overs later, Lilli Hamilton knocked over the Amreen’s pegs. With the score on 31 after seven overs, South’s dangerous openers back in the shed and Wests sharp fielding starting to applying heaps of pressure, the momentum was turning toward Wests. Holly Walker snared her first wicket in the tenth over with Mia Baker taking a solid catch at point and Isabel Goffage captured her second in the eleventh with Olivia Totten catching the ball twice (once at chest height and a second time three inches above the turf!). Souths had lost two wickets for three runs.
Souths settled and put on another 18 runs for the 6th wicket between Jenna Cowell and Chelsea Sonter before Sophie Martin bowled Jenna Cowell behind her legs and Souths were 5/62. Mia Baker had Chelsea caught at short cover by Issy, and pace guns Tanvi Aiyar and Holly Walker cleaned up the tail to have Souths all out for 89 in the last over.
Wets openers Issy and Tanvi took the score to 21 before Tanvi fell for 10. Vice-captain Scarlett and captain Issy pushed the total to 42 before Scarlett departed after mis-cueing a cut shot. But Wests the momentum was well and truly with the Wests girls by that point and Issy and Lilli Hamilton took the girls home, passing South’s total in the fifteenth over for a 8-wicket win and the premiership!
Coach George Seaward award the player of the match honour to Holly Walker for her fantastic pace bowling and massive energy and athleticism in the field, including an awesome sliding save on the boundary.
Huge congratulations girls for a great outcome for the season. Kudos to you for all of the hard work you’ve put into training over the past 6 months!
