Our girls teams went of a winning extravaganza this weekend, getting up all over the place against quality teams! The Harriers and the Ospreys duked it out for the Harris Shield with the Harriers narrowly getting up for the premiership in a thriller. The Hawks grabbed a premiership against the UQ Flames. The Kites won their Harris Shield consolation final against the Souths Fire girls. The Kestrels went two-in-a-row against the competition-leading Souths Flames in the Harris Shield Dev comp, and the Egrets put on a great showing against the BSK Flamingos.
Winning premierships in Kirby Short Cup and Harris Shield comps wrapped up the season nicely for Wests’ teams in those comps.
But it ain’t quite over yet…! The Egrets and the Kestrels have one more chance for glory when they play their final round next weekend!

Wests Hawks vs UQ Flames (Final)
The Hawks took out the Kirby Short Cup premiership for 2020-21 with a great win over a quality UQ Flames outfit on Saturday night at Chelmer Sports Ground. They secured the win on back of tight bowling and fielding and a thumping innings of 78 off 60 balls by Naiya Varidel.

Wests Kites vs Souths Fire (Consolation Final)

On Friday 5th March, the West Kites played against Souths Fire in the 3rd / 4th playoff at Fehlberg Park.
The Kites were definitely the underdogs having previously lost to Souths earlier in the season.
Souths batted first and were restricted to 2-86 off their 20 overs. Kites bowled really well but the turning point was the wicket of Souths star batter from a superb catch by Caitlin H off Deepika B’s bowling.
The Kites got off to a great start scoring 27 off the first 4 overs before the loss of their first wicket. From there, everyone chipped in with special mention to Lily D who scored 19 off 25 and Jenny C with 16 off 22. It was a very exciting finish, but some very level heads, and patient batting saw the Kites winning with a score of 6-87 with 3 overs to spare.
A great night for the girls, registering their first win when it really mattered!

Wests Harriers vs Wests Ospreys (Final)

On Friday, The Harris Shield final was held at Chelmer between the Wests Harriers and the Wests Ospreys. The game began with the toss, the captain of the Ospreys – Sophie Martin – won and elected to bat. The night was opened with the batting by Ashley Oates and Lacey Kennedy. Lacey was off to a good start with 11 off 12 but was bowled out by a fantastic delivery by Holly Walker. Sophie Martin came in next to keep the game moving with 26 off 22. Olivia Totten came in to take Ash’s place after another wicket by Tanvi Aiyar. She scored a whopping 45 off 38 then was taken by a great ball by Tanvi. The Harrier’s best bowling figures were delivered by Chloe Duce with 1 for 14 off 4. The Ospreys ended on 112 runs after 20 overs.
The Harriers took on the challenge and opened with Scarlett Varidel and Holly Walker. Opening the bowling was Sophie Martin and Mia Baker. Holly walker was dismissed through the stumps in the 3rd over finishing her innings with 7 off 10 and Tanvi came to the crease. The runs were being rapidly scored, putting pressure on the Ospreys. Scarlett then retired and later got out with 18 off 28. Chloe came in with Tanvi. The game was picking up to a great start for both teams. It all came down to the last over, the Harriers needed 4 runs off the over and the opening bowler Sophie Martin was ready to strike again with her ultra-accurate bowling skills. The Harriers were anxiously watching the game, simultaneously Poppy Weeks of the Harriers team was frazzled by the intensity and the long-awaited result. 1 run off the last 2 balls was needed. Tanvi hit a clean shot through mid on and running 2, the Harriers had won the Final.
The Man of the Match for the Harriers went to Chloe Duce for her outstanding performance with both the bat and the ball and her great contribution to the Wests Harriers consistently throughout the season. The Osprey’s man of the match went to Lacey Kennedy for her contribution to their team in both the Finals and the rounds. All players from both teams played phenomenally both in the round-robin rounds and in the Final. Congratulations to all Wests players this season, and a big congratulations to the newly formed Kites team for winning their game on Friday against the Souths team after only having 5 rounds of experience in the comp. This concludes the Junior girl’s season and we hope to see you all at the 2020/2021 awards night!

Wests Kestrels vs Souths Flame

On Friday evening the Kestrels played against Souths Flame at Graceville Memorial Park. Souths won the toss, and elected to bat. They scored a competitive 3/101 in their 20 overs. Amy Stone was involved in two run-outs, and Devika Menon took 1/10 in her two overs. All bowlers were quite economical and fielding continued to improve.
The Kestrels then went about chasing this score. After last week’s performance they were full of confidence, and there was a marked improvement in running between the wickets by all. Zoe Atley top scored with 16, and there were significant contributions from Davika Menon (15 n.o.) and Mischa Reid (10 n.o.). In the end the Kestrels chased down the score reaching 6/102 in the 18th over. This is their second victory in a row, and they are now the only team to have defeated Souths Flame this season. Congratulations girls.
Stage 1
Wests Egrets vs BSK Flamingos
Last week was a tight game between BSK Flamingos.
In an game reduced to 16 overs each Egrets batted first and put on 5/46, with Kunushi and Isabella both top scoring with 5 runs each.
Egrets put on a great fielding effort restricting scoring early. Each of Isabelle, Sophie Young and Sophie Black took wickets. But in the end Flamingos got away with 3/57 winning the game.
It was a great effort by all the girls in Egrets who continue to get better each game.
