With a large number of players unavailable, Wests’ women’s grade teams played valiantly but ultimately went down in both grades last weekend.
First Grade
After restricting Ipswich-Logan to 182 from 49 overs with a fine bowling effort all round, Wests lost wickets steadily to be all out for 152 in the 37th over. A 77-run stand for the third wicket between Meagan Dixon and Annie Wikman promised for a while to propel the girls past Ipswich-Logan’s total, but it wasn’t to be.
Key individual statistics:
- Annie Wikman 65 (83)
- Meagan Dixon 39 (50) and 2/22 (10)
- Isobel Hartog 2/36 (10)
- Alex Lloyd 2/21 (6)
Isobel Hartog turns to run in again. Meagan Dixon has the batsman defending. Eliza Goffage works the ball to cover point. Annie Wikman hooks . Bec McCoombes and keeper Sofia Nearhos make some moves between overs.
Second Grade
With our second grade team including four players on debut plus another two players filling in, this weeks game was always likely to be a challenge by any measure. Our girls batted first and began well with a 41-run partnership between Kinjal Dani and Emma Lockwood before Emma departed. Our final two batsmen Sarah Kelso and Allegra Nearhos held on grimly for a final wicket partnership of 11 to take the total to 82.
Redlands briefly looked vulnerable early when Sarah Kelso took the wicket of opener J Little with the score on 2, but Wests total was overtaken without further loss in the fifteenth over.
Key individual statistics:
- Kinjal Dani 22 (31)
- Emma Lockwood 12 (23)
- Sarah Kelso 1/9 (4)
