Plans are advancing rapidly for the upgrade of Wests’ cricket practice nets at Graceville Memorial Park with the fundraising campaign being launched for the project.
The project is a major initiative to celebrate the club’s 100th year of continuous participation in Brisbane premier cricket since 1921.
A substantial part of the project funding has already been secured via a generous donation. This is a great opportunity for Wests members and supporters to contribute to the future of the club adding their donation to the project.
Tax-deductible donations can be made to the project through the Australian Sports Foundation project page.
The existing practice nets at Graceville Memorial Park have been in operation for several decades with the most recent upgrade work completed about 30 years ago. The facility is due for an upgrade to bring it up to Cricket Australia’s current guidelines for premier cricket practice facilities, and to provide additional practice capacity for our growing club.
The project includes complete replacement of the existing surfaces, replacement of the net structure with fully enclosed bays, two additional nets, hard (synthetic) bowlers runups and upgraded lighting.
Construction is expected to be divided into two stages with the refurbishment of the existing nets planned to be completed in 2020 and the balance of the work to be completely when additional approvals and funding are secured.
