Wests girls took out the premiership final against Ipswich for the Paul Pink Shield last night in dramatic fashion.
An early attack of the yips triggered a massive batting collapse in the top order and had the team reeling at 5 for just 15, but the girls rallied to grind out a low score of 70 from their 20 overs. It was a far lower total than the 120-plus totals they’d been rolling out in the preliminary rounds and didn’t look like enough to snatch the win.
Not so!
The team fought back hard with the ball and knocked Ipswich over for just 36 and won the game by and emphatic 34 runs.
The win secured back-to back wins for Wests in the Paul Pink Shield for the first time, and this is third time Wests girls have taken out the premiership in the last five years under the guidance of coach George Seaward, and the fourth finals appearance in that period.
Great work to secure the first premier cricket premiership for Wests for the 2021-22 season, girls!
