Member for Miller Mark Bailey has announced that Labor has committed to providing $1m in funding for the project upgrading the facilities at the Chelmer Sports Ground if Labor is returned to office in the upcoming Queensland state election.
This additional funding builds on existing funding already secured for the project from Brisbane City Council, Queensland Cricket, AFL Queensland and Western Suburbs District Cricket Club and brings the total funding commitment for the project to $2.465m.
Importantly, the additional funding enables Stage 2 of the project works to proceed, enabling the full vision for the upgrading of the off-field facilities at this important WSDCC site to be realised. Stage 2 includes new stand-alone change rooms, cricket practice nets and spectator viewing areas, adding to the Stage 1 works which include a major rebuild of the existing sports club building into a modern clubhouse and administration building.
Initial site investigation and reference design work for the project has already commenced on the basis of previous funding commitments. WSDCC is delivering the project on behalf of the joint tenants of the site which include WSDCC, Kenmore Bears AFLC and Ambrose Treacey College.
