Our senior men made a tough start to the season with both 1st and 2nd grade going down to the Gold Coast. 1st grade saw the debut of Arjun Nair or has represented NSW and the Sydney Thunder for a number of seasons. 1st grade played in a rain affected match at Bill Pippen Oval on the Gold Coast, losing the toss and getting sent in a green and tacky wicket. Debutant fell early for 1 and then rain intervened on 1 – 22 in the 8th over with Snell and Truloff at the crease. It would be somewhat 3 hours before play resumed with wests having a further 17 overs to bat of which the scrambled to be all out for 112. McGiffin 26 off 20 and Truloff 21 off 32 were the top scorers, wests then needed early breakthroughs and they got an early run out of opener Kerr. From then on it was plane sailing for the dolphins with them running the total down with 5 overs to spare with the loss of only 1 wicket. Brisbane Heat batter Max Bryant finished with 82 not out of 67.
2nd grade lost by 4 wickets at Graceville with a first innings total of 9-141 off 50 overs not proving enough, Connor Bell top scored with 28 off 55. Gold Coast ran down the total for the loss of 6 wickets in the 37th over, youngster Joe Fry was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 20.
Our Lords Taverners made a positive start to their seasons campaign with a thumping win over Norths at Shaw Rd. Wests made 192 with Michael Nuemann top scoring with 68 off 99 balls and was well supported by Jack Sonter 42 from 67. Wests then cleaned up the norths batting lineup bowling them out for a poultry 87, Jake Kranen 3 – 18 and Luke Harper 2 – 19 were the chief destroyers! Great start for out Tavs !!
