Our women’s squad lined up for three trial games over the weekend with second grade playing Souths on Saturday and both grades playing UQ on Sunday.

Both grades got a solid hit-out prior to the start of the Katherine Raymont Shield first grade competition on September 5 and the Jodie Fields Shield second grade competition on September 18.

First grade led the way with a win over UQ. Olivia Hartland and Olivia Steele took two wickets and Jess Bryant, Sophie Whittaker and Naiya Varidel nabbed one apiece. Several of the girls were in the runs with Annie Wikman making 34 retired, Eloise Schabe 28, Naiya Varidel 24, Olivia Steele 22 and wicketkeeper Scarlett Varidel hit the winning runs and finished on 17 not out.

Seconds put on a solid showing against UQ and Souths, despite several senior players being unavailable.

All in all, it’s looking promising for the ladies of Wests for Season 2021-22!
