Wests girls took out two rounds of the Paul Pink Shield comp in one day last weekend with contrasting wins.

Round 4 against the Gold Coast on Sunday morning was a huge win for the Wests girls. The toss was lost by Wests and the Gold Coast elected to bowl. The first innings started off rapidly as Layla Proctor and Naiya Varidel had a fantastic opening stand and partnership of 135 runs before Layla was dismissed for 64 runs off 48 balls. Naiya was then accompanied by Isbel Goffage and then finished with 89no off 63 balls. Isabel also finished not out 21 off 20 balls. The batting innings then concluded with 211 runs.

The bowling innings was lead by Erin Moran and Holly Walker who combined for a devastating opening partnership of 5/16 off 4 overs with Erin taking three wickets and Holly taking two. They were backed up by Emma Lockward, Takeira Whisson and Allegra Nearhos who all took one wicket. The Gold Coast were bowled out for 43, giving Wests a huge 168 run win.

In the afternoon Wests played Ipswich/Logan for Round 5. Wests fielded for the first innings and the bowling did start in a heap although was managed and supported in the back end of the innings by Allegra Nearhos who bowled 4 overs only going for 19 runs with her Leg Spin attack. Her bowling partnership with Zaara Dancu was the stand out effort to control Ipswich/Logan’s run rate. Zaara bowled 3 overs for 11 runs and took 2 wickets. This innings was concluded with Ipswich scoring 139 runs.

The batting innings was once again opened by Naiya Varidel and Layla Proctor. Unfortunately Layla was knocked over early in the innings but the middle order batsmen Zaara Dancu (39 off 37) and Erin Moran (26no off 28) carried on the start provided by Naiya (35 off 27) and took Wests over the line in the nineteenth over for a tight three wicket win with 10 balls to spare.

Fantastically played by all the girls today and a special shout for Layla Proctor for her Wests debut of a half century plus!
