Wests Kites vs Wests Harriers

by Deepika Bogahawatta

On Friday 26th Feb, the West Kites played against the very strong Wests Harriers in the semi-finals.

The Harriers won the coin flip and elected to bat. The Kites bowled well, however the Harriers batted excellently and reached 5-138 off their 20 overs. Pick of the bowlers was Breeanna van Hout with 2 for 4 off 3 overs.

Ava Knox batted well for 34 not out and the Kites reached 7-92. This formidable target was always going to be tough to chase, and this was made even more difficult by some excellent Harriers bowling as well as superb fielding by Stella Scott (for the opposition!)
The game was played in a great spirit and the Kites wish both the Ospreys and Harriers the very best of luck for the upcoming Finals. Great to know the trophy will stay at Wests!

Wests Ospreys vs Souths Fire

By Sophie Martin

On Friday the 26th of February, the Wests Ospreys took on the Souths Fire at Jack Cooke Oval. Having lost the toss, the Ospreys were sent into bat and lost 3 wickets in quick succession. Next in was Ishani Singh who helped steady the ship, making a solid 15 runs off 20 balls. This steady run flow anchored the innings, allowing the girls to post a remarkable 4-124.

With massive scoreboard pressure placed on Souths batters, their openers then walked out into the middle with our fielders ready for a fight to create a double Wests grand final. The opening 8 overs were extremely tight with highlights of Ishani’s maiden and Lacey Kennedy’s 2 for 18 after four. After a short drink break, the girls knuckled down to slow the run rate with most of the closing overs consisting of mainly dot balls. In the final over of the match the Souths Fire needed 34 runs to win. There was a lot of big swings, but the girls fielded extremely well to constrict them to only one run off the final over. This action-packed game consisted of many highlights with batting being Ishani Singh’s 15 off 20, Olivia Totten’s 19 off 18, and Sophie Martin’s 31 off 27, and bowling being Lacey Kennedy’s 2 for 18 off 4, Ishani Singh’s 1 for 12 off 4 with one maiden, and Olivia Totten’s 2 for 23 off 4. The girls all look forward to playing the Harriers next Friday night in the Grand Final. Go Ospreys!

Wests Harriers vs Wests Kites

by Scarlett Varidel

On Friday the Harriers once again took on the challenge of the Wests Kites in their T20 Harris Shield semi-final. The toss was done at Chelmer and the Harriers won and elected to bat. Scarlett and Holly opened and created a long partnership broken by retiring Holly with 13 off 20 balls. Soon after Scarlett retired with 22 off 20. Tanvi came in to retire with 25 off 20. Chloe had an unlucky short inning ended with a caught and bowled and Lucy Pagliano compiled a patient 8 from 18 balls. Holly and Scarlett returned at the end of the innings and finished with 47* (36) and 30* (20) respectively. The Harriers finished on 138.

The Harriers then began their bowling innings, Georgia Black and Holly Walker opened the bowling. Their were some great figures but a special mention to Tanvi Aiyar that had great figures of 3 for 9 off 4. The Kites were 7 for 92 at the end of the innings, leaving the Harriers with a win into the Finals against the Wests Ospreys.
