Wests women’s grade teams performed strongly on October 6 with second grade improving dramatically to go down narrowly to the Gold Coast, and first grade recording another double Twenty20 win to remain undefeated in the Katherine Raymond Shield T20 comp.

Second Grade

Second grade batted first and batted solidly throughout to post a competitive 133 for 9 wickets in their 40 overs. Bec McCoombes anchored the innings with a commanding 57 runs and contributions were made by most other batters.

Gold Coast crumpled dramatically to be 4-33 in the seventh over thanks to four wickets taken by Isabel Goffage before recovering to finish on 9-136 and take the game by three runs in the 39th over. Isabel Goffage finished with a five-fer and Alex Lloyd took two wickets.

First Grade

First grade again won both games last weekend, propelling them to the top of the table for the Katherine Raymont shield T20 competition with two more round-robin games to come next weekend before the one-day games kick off.

Game 1 vs Wynnum-Manly/Redlands

The first game against Wynnum-Manly/Redlands resulted in a 75-run win with Wests making 4/171 and Wynnum-Manly/Redlands replying with 8/96. Kirby Short top scored with a quick 75 runs and was supported by Megan Dixon with an equally rapid 37. Ash Sims lead the wicket takers with three with newly minted Westie Samantha Dixon taking a double.

Game 2 vs Sandgate-Redcliffe

The girls posted a T20 second win for the day, this time by 60 runs. Grace Harris and Kirby short led the way with the bat with a 190-run opening stand and scores of 133 and 61 respectively. Ashleigh Sims again topped the bowling stats with two wickets, with Meagan Dixon and Samantha Dixon taking one wicket each.
